Notes

Von Georg entered the Kaiserliche Marine as Seekadett in 1905 and served on the armoured cruisers SMS Fürst Bismarck and SMS Scharnhorst in the East Asia Squadron. Between 1914 and 1916 served as watch officer on the light cruisers SMS Kolberg and SMS Regensburg and then went to the U-boat school. He became commander of U-57 and U-101 and was later appointed to command U-148 which was still under construction when the war ended.

Received the Pour le Mérite in recognition of his claimed successes of sinking a total of 200.187 GRT of enemy merchant shipping and one British light cruiser (this was in fact the sloop HMS Genista). Also received the Order of Max Joseph which gave him the noble title of Ritter von by the Bavarian king Ludwig III on 23 June 1918.

In 1919 he joined the famous Marine Brigade von Löwenfeldt until he left the military service on 28 August 1920. Von Georg was charged as war criminal by the British but acquitted in 1923. As civilian he worked as director and board member in the metal industry and joined the SS on 30 January 1938. Returning to military service in 1939 he became the chief of the Gruppe für Rüstungsfragen (OKM/K III R) in the Hauptamt Kriegsschiffbau (branch office for arms questions of the department for warship building) on 15 October 1939. When this branch was dissolved in April 1943 he led the special staff of the Kriegsmarine in the staff of the Ministry of Armaments and War Production in Milan, Italy.

Taken prisoner at the end of the war he was released on 19 December 1947.
