Having completed tials, Oruc Reis (Lt.Cdr. W.S. Hall, RN), departed the Clyde area to return to Barrow. She was escorted by HMS White Bear (Cdr. (retired) C.C. Flemming, RN). (4)

Oruc Reis (Lt.Cdr. W.S. Hall, RN) arrived back at her builders yard at Barrow where she was laid up for a while awaiting the completion of her 'sister' Murat Reis. (4)


Submarine HMS P 612 (P 612)


16 Oct 1941
The Turkish submarine Murat Reis departed her builders yard at Barrow for trials in the Clyde area. She made the passage together with the British submarine HMS P 38 (Lt. R.J. Hemingway, DSC, RN). They were escorted by HMS La Capricieuse (Lt.Cdr. G.W. Dobson, RNR).

Murat Reis was manned by a British crew, mpst likely commanded by Lt.Cdr. W.S. Hall, RN who had also taken her sister ship Oruc Reis on trials in August. (4)

HMS P 615 (Lt.Cdr. W.S. Hall, RN) arrived at Holy Loch to begin a period of trials and training. En-route from Barrow trials and exercises had been carried out. (5)

HMS P 615 (Lt.Cdr. W.S. Hall, RN) conducted full power trials in the Clyde area. Following the successful completion of these trials she was commissioned at Holy Loch. (5)

6 Apr 1942
HMS P 615 (Lt.Cdr. W.S. Hall, RN) departed Holy Loch for exercises in the Clyde area. (5)
