Order of Leopold II (Belgium)

The Order of Leopold II was established on August 24, 1900, by Leopold II as king of the Congo Free State. It became a Belgian award in 1908 when the Congo Free State came under Belgian control.

The order was awarded in five grades: grand cross, grand officer, commander, officer, and knight. The award to Kümpel was in the grade of knight.
