Career information

Walter James Taylor was the Royal Navy one mile and half mile running champion earlier on in his career.

Taylor served on HMS Falmouth - Gunner- 1937-39; HMS Obdurate - Lieutenant - 1943; HMS Diomede -Lieutenant -1943-1944; HMS Roseneath -Lt Cmdr - 1946 - 1948 and ended his career as the Training Commander at HMS Barracks Devonport 1950-1952. His notes refer to Operation Husky - torpedoed in Med en route to Sicily - HMS Obdurate.

He was appointed to Scapa Flow at the outbreak of war to organise & build a detached specialist gunnery school and was with HMS Ajax 1939-43 - no details other than 'various theatres of war'.

He was lieutenant in command, on the HMS Witch, that did the first sea speed trial around the British Isles, probably starting out of Queensferry in Scotland.
