During this patrol, the Channel Dash occurred and the submarine was ordered not to attack anything less than cruiser and to watch the approaches of Trondheim with HMS Trident, HMS Tuna and the Free French FFS Minerve. On 23 February, HMS Trident torpedoed the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen but P 37 did not observe anything.

HMS P 37 (Lt. H. Winter, RN) fired two torpedoes at a suspected U-boat in the Norwegian Sea. Two torpedoes were fired and one torpedo explosion was heard. No U-boats were operating near this position so the contact must have been bogus, perhaps the contact was a whale or a shoal of porpoises.

(All times are zone -1)
1015 hours – In approximate position 62.42’N, 03.10’E while proceeding dived heard strange noises. Suspected a U-boat. Closed to investigate.

During the next period the suspected U-boat was tracked.

1353 hours – Fired two torpedoes against suspected U-boat.

1403 hours – Heard a loud explosion.

1420 hours – Closed the position of the explosion, found nothing.

1600 hours - Proceeded. (9)

HMS P 37 (Lt. H. Winter, RN) ended her 3rd war patrol at Lerwick. She departed for Dundee later the same day together with FFS Rubis. They were escorted by HMS Loch Monteith (T/Lt. K.W. Richardson, RNR). (9)

P 37 then proceeded south through the Irish Sea escorted by HMS White Bear (Cdr.(Retd.) C.C. Flemming, RN) until 0130/4 when they parted company off Bishops Rock.

P 37 was to proceed to Malta where she was to join the 10th submarine flotilla.
