The British tanker San Fernando is torpedoed and damaged about 50 nautical miles south-south-west of Cape Clear in position 50º20'N, 10º24'W by the German submarine U-47. The tanker was taken in tow by tugs but sank the next day. HMS Fowey (Cdr. H.B. Ellison, RN) and HMS Sandwich (Cdr. M.J. Yeatman, RN) together pick up 49 survivors.

HMS Sandwich (Cdr M.J. Yeatman, RN) picks up 37 survivors from the Norwegian tanker Eli Knudsen that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-32 south of Ireland in position 50º36'N, 08º44'W.

2 Jul 1940
HMS Sandwich (Cdr M.J. Yeatman, RN) picks up 42 survivors from the British tanker Athellaird that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-29 about 350 nautical miles north-west of Cape Finisterre in position 47º24'N, 16º49'W.

23 Nov 1940
HMS Sandwich (Cdr. M.J. Yeatman, RN) picks up 28 survivors from the British merchant King Idwal that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-123 about 158 nautical miles west of Rockall in position 56º44'N, 19º13'W.

HMS Sandwich also picks up 5 survivors from the British merchant Tymeric that was also torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-123 about 350 nautical miles west-north-west of Malin Head in position 57º00N, 20º30'W.
