Sand Lance herself is damaged when she runs aground off Paramushiro. Also her attack periscope is damaged by drift ice.

3 Mar 1944 (position 46.00, 149.10)
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Akashisan Maru (4541 GRT) west of Uruppu, Japan in position 46°00'N, 149°10'E.

Later that same day Lt.Cdr. Garrison accidentally torpedoed and sank the Soviet cargo ship Belorussia (2900 GRT) in position 46°28'N, 149°18'E.

While operating about 60 nautical miles west of Saipan USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoed and sank the Japanese troop transport Taikoku Maru (2633 GRT) in position 14°57'N, 144°47'E and the Japanese army cargo ship Fukko Maru (3834 GRT) in position 14°49'N, 142°23'E.
