USS Maddox (Cdr. J.S. Willis) is hit by a
Japanese kamikaze aircraft east of Formosa in position 23°06'N, 122°43'E. 7 of the crew were killed and 35 were wounded in this attack of which one died the following day. Maddox returned to Ulithi for repairs.
