HMCS Rosthern (T/Lt. R.J.G. Johnson, RCNVR) and HMCS Summerside (T/Lt. F.O. Gerity, RCNR) together picks up survivors from the American tanker Pan New York that was torpedoed and damaged by the German submarine U-624 in the North Atlantic about 550 nautical miles west of Malin Head in position 54º58'N, 23º56'W. The corvettes sank the wrecked tanker with gunfire and depth charges.
