Corvette HMCS Barrie (K 138)


9 Feb 1942
The British merchant Empire Fusilier is torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-85 southeast of St.Johns, Newfoundland, Canada in position 44º45'N, 47º25'W. HMCS Barrie (Chief Skipper G.N. Downey, RCNR) later picks up 38 survivors.


Corvette HMCS Buctouche (K 179)


7 Jul 1942
HMCS Buctouche (Skr.Lt. G.N. Downey, RCNR) picked up 15 survivors from the Norwegian merchant Moldanger. The Moldanger was torpedoed and sunk on 27 June 1942 in postion 38º03'N, 70º52'W by the German submarine U-404.


Frigate HMCS Joliette (K 418)


22 Nov 1944
HMCS Joliette (A/Lt.Cdr.G.N. Downey, RCNR) ran aground in Lough Foyle, causing extensive damage to her hull. She was repaired at Belfast from 5 December 1944 until 5 April 1945.
