Notes on loss At 03.27 hours on 20 Sep, 1941, the Barbro (Master Lauritz Knudsen) was hit by two torpedoes from U-552 and her cargo caught fire. At 04.30 hours, U-69 (Zahn) tried to administer a coup de grâce, but the torpedo did not detonate. All on board, 22 Norwegians, three Swedes, one Dane, five British and four Canadians died in the flames, helplessly watched by other ships around her.
