| Notes on loss | At 06.31 hours on 24 Sep, 1941, U-107 attacked the convoy SL-87 southwest of Madeira and reported three ships sunk. These ships were John Holt, Lafian and Dixcove. The John Holt (Master Cecil Gordon Hime) was the ship of the convoy commodore Cdr A. MacRae DSC RNR. The master, the commodore, five naval staff members, 45 crew members, seven gunners and nine passengers were picked up by the British sloop HMS Gorleston (Y 92) (Cdr R.W. Keymer) and landed at Ponta Delgada, Azores. One gunner was lost. | ||
