Notes on loss At 11.21 hours on 17 Jan, 1942, the unescorted Octavian (Master Jens L. Dahl) was hit by two torpedoes from U-203 and immediately sank off Cape Race, Newfoundland. The ship had been reported missing with a crew of 16 Norwegians and 1 British on board.
