History In September 1939, the whaler Sotra of South Georgia Co Ltd (Chr. Salvesen & Co), Leith was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and converted to a M/S trawler. 
Notes on event

At 21.46 hours on 29 Jan 1942, U-431 attacked convoy TA-21 off Bardia and hit HMS Sotra (T/Lt Frederick Roy Linfield, RNR) with one torpedo. The vessel exploded and sank with the loss of the crew, six of them Norwegian.
