History Built as American Lorain for US Shipping Board, Newark; 1937 transferred to US Maritime Commission, Newark and laid up as reserve.
In 1942 given to Britain and renamed Empire Thrush by Ministry of War Transport (MoWT). 
Notes on loss At 15.15 hours on 14 Apr, 1942, the unescorted Empire Thrush (Master George Frisk) was torpedoed and sunk by U-203 near Cape Hatteras. The master, 47 crew members and seven gunners were picked up by the American merchant Evelyn and landed at Norfolk, Virginia.
