| Notes on loss | At 00.40 hours on 28 Jul, 1942, the unescorted Weirbank (Master David Alexander Banner Reid) was hit by one torpedo from U-66 about 90 miles southeast of Barbados. Two minutes earlier the U-boat had missed the zigzagging ship with a first torpedo. The ship settled by the stern and sank after 37 minutes. One crew member was lost. The master, 55 crew members and ten gunners landed at Scarborough, Tobago on 29 July. | ||
