History On 22 Jul, 1941, the Vichy-French Ville de Rouen of Nouvelle Compagnie Havraise Péninsulaire de Navigation, Le Havre was captured by HMS Dunedin (D 93) east of Natal. The ship was later transferred to the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT).
Notes on loss At 22.02 hours on 28 Dec, 1942, U-225 (Leimkühler) fired torpedoes at the convoy ONS-154 north of the Azores and reported two ships sunk and two others probably sunk. In fact, the Melmore Head in station #113 was hit by two torpedoes and blew up and the stern torpedo hit the Ville de Rouen, which was later finished off by U-662.

The Ville de Rouen (Master Herbert Colin Skinns) sank after being hit by a spread of two torpedoes. The master, 61 crew members and nine gunners were picked up by HMCS Shediac (K 110) (Lt J.E. Clayton) and landed at Ponta Delgada, Azores.
