| Notes on loss | On 17 Feb, 1943, the unescorted Llanashe (Master James Parry) was torpedoed and sunk by U-182 south of Cape Saint Francis, Cape Colony. The master, 27 crew members and five gunners were lost. The chief officer, S.P. Lloyd, seven crew members and one gunner were picked up after 11 days adrift by the Dutch merchant Tarakan, transferred to HMS Carthage (F 99) (Capt W.H.V. Harris, MVO DSC) and HMS Racehorse (H 11) (Cdr A.F. Burness-Nugent) and landed at Capetown on 4 March. | ||
