| Notes on loss | On 5 Apr, 1943, the unescorted Aloe (Master Angus Maclennan) was torpedoed and sunk by U-182 420 miles southeast of Durban. The master was taken prisoner by U-182 and died when the U-boat was lost on 16 May. 44 crew members and two gunners were picked up by the American merchant Alexander Ramsey and landed at Capetown. | ||
