| History | The Kelmscott was launched on 7 May, 1943 and completed in July 1943. In 1949 the ship was sold to T. Dunlop & Sons, Glasgow and renamed Queen Anne. 1954 sold to Poland and renamed Marian Buszek for Polish Ocean Lines, Gdynia. On 30 Mar, 1968, she arrived in Whampoa for breaking up. | ||
| Notes on loss | At 13.00 hours on 9 Feb, 1944, the Kelmscott in convoy HX-278 was torpedoed by U-845 off St. Johns. The ship developed a heavy list but was towed to St. Johns and after temporary repairs left for Baltimore on 17 August. On 24 Aug, 1944, the Kelmscott collided with the American Liberty ship William Leavitt off Atlantic City, the ship was flooded again and had to be beached to prevent sinking. Later she was towed to Delaware Breakwater and then to Baltimore to be repaired. | ||
