Notes on loss At 04.11 hours on 21 Jun, 1940, the unescorted Hilda (Master Antti Vene) was hit by one torpedo from U-52 and sank in a few minutes in the Bay of Biscay. The master and ten crew members sailed 150 miles in their lifeboats until they landed two days later at Castro Urdiales, Spain.
