| Notes on loss | At 06.16 hours on 24 Oct, 1939, the unescorted Menin Ridge (Master David Emlyn Powell) was hit by one torpedo from U-37 and sank immediately about 90 miles west of Gibraltar. The ship had been missed by a first torpedo at 01.16 hours. The master and 19 crew members were lost. Five crew members were picked up by the American motor merchant Crown City and landed at Gibraltar. | ||
