Personal information

Son of John and Catherine Macleod; husband of Kate Macleod. He had both legs badly injured when Michael E. was torpedoed and was rescued by pulling him through a hole in the deck after he tied a rope around himself. Neil Macleod then crawled along the deck to the boat on hands and knees and slid into boat himself, refusing assistance. He pulled himself up the rope ladder when picked up by Alcinous, then smoked a pipe and joked. However, the doctor aboard had no instruments to carry out the major operation of amputating his legs. He died of gangrene and was buried at sea on 9 June.
