Personal information
Walter Kean was born as first of five children to the second wife of Peter Owen Kean, a printer and publisher of Wallasey, Cheshire. He married Winifred "Freda" Kirkwood in 1937, they had no children. He went on to serve with the Ellerman Line sailing to South Africa quite often.
