Personal information
Son of Samuel Franklin and Augusta Helmus Bartol, of Brooklyn, NY. Franklin Henry Bartol joined the US Navy on 29 June 1943, was assigned to USS Fechteler from commissioning until her loss on 5 May 1944 and was among the 53 survivors rescued by HMS Hengist. He was subsequently assigned to the US destroyer minelayer USS Shannon (DM 25) as Water Tender Second Class on her commission on 8 September 1944 and eventually discharged from the US Navy on 23 November 1946.
