History Laid down as War Duty for The Shipping Controller, completed in May 1920 as Bratton Castle for Union-Castle Mail SS Co Ltd, London. 1931 sold to Greece and renamed Proteus for Atlanticos SS Co Ltd, Syra. 1932 renamed Mount Taurus and registered in Panama. 1936 transferred to Kulukundis Shipping Co SA, Piræus. 
Notes on event

At 23.00 hours on 17 Nov 1942, U-264 fired a spread of three torpedoes at two overlapping ships in convoy ONS-144 and heard three detonations. However, only one torpedo hit and sank the Mount Taurus.
