Notes on event

Between 02.45 and 03.16 hours on 26 January 1943 the sailing vessel Hassan was unsuccessfully rammed four times by U-431 about 10 miles east of Famagusta, Cyprus. At 03.33 hours, the U-boat shelled the vessel with her deck gun and 20mm anti-aircraft gun until leaving a burning and sinking wreck behind.
