History Laid down as unnamed patrol gunboat (PG 104) of the Asheville class for the US Navy, completed in May 1943 as frigate HMS Cuckmere (K 299) for the Royal Navy. 
Notes on event

At 13.04 hours on 11 Dec 1943, HMS Cuckmere (K 299) (LtCdr A. Johnson, RNVR) was badly damaged by a Gnat from U-223 while escorting convoy KMS-34 off Bougie. She was towed to Algiers, but declared a total loss. On 6 Nov 1946, returned to the US Navy and broken up.
