Notes on event

On 16 Aug 1944 the unescorted Empire Lancer (Master Maxime Jollivet) was torpedoed and sunk by U-862 in the Mozambique Channel. The master, 36 crew members and five gunners were lost. 34 crew members and three gunners landed 60 miles south of Lumbo, Portuguese East Africa ten days later.
