History

Never commissioned into the United States Navy.
Transferred to the Royal Navy upon completion.
While in service with the Royal Navy LST 404 was torpedoed and damaged by the German submarine U-741 about 35 nautical miles south-east of St. Catherine’s Point in position 50º02'N, 00º38'W. The damaged ship was towed to Lee-on-Solent and declared a total loss after breaking in two.
