Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet.
Recommissioned 6 April 1963.
Decommissioned 7 September 1963 and transferred to Brazil being renamed Rio Grande do Sol (S-11).
Decommissioned by the Brazilian Navy in 1972.
Scrapped in 1975.

USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese troop transport Akashisan Maru (4541 GRT) west of Uruppu, Japan in position 46º00'N, 149º10'E.

Later that same day Lt.Cdr. Garrison accidentally torpedoes and sinks the Soviet cargo ship Belorussia (2900 GRT) in position 46º28'N, 149º18'E. (see map)

USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese light cruiser Tatsuta (3230 tons, offsite link) and the Japanese army cargo ship Kokuyo Maru (4667 GRT) about 150 nautical miles south-south-west of Yokosuka, Japan in position 32º52'N, 139º12'E. (see map)

23 Mar 1944
USS Sand Lance (Lt.Cdr. M.E. Garrison) ends her 1st war patrol at Pearl Harbour. In late April she departs for her 2nd war patrol, in the Mariana Islands area.
