Noteable events involving Fowey include:

30 Jan, 1940
On 30 January 1940 U-55 attacked convoy OA-80G south-west of the Isles of Scilly which was escorted by the sloop HMS Fowey (Cdr. H.B. Ellison, RN). Two ships were hit and sunk, The Greek merchant Keramiai (5085 GRT) and the British merchant Vaclite (5026 GRT) sank in position 49º20'N 07º04'W. In the follow up attack HMS Fowey was joined by the Brisih destroyer HMS Whitshed (Cdr. E.R. Conder, RN), the French destroyers Valmy (Cdr. J.L.P. Constantin) and Guépard (Capt. R.E. Gervais de Lafond) and a a British Sunderland aircraft from 228 Sqdn. in the following attacks U-55 was sunk in position 48º37'N, 07º48'W with only a single casualty. (see map)

15 Jun, 1940
HMS Fowey (Cdr. H.B. Ellison, RN) picks up 16 survivors from the Norwegian tanker Italia that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-38 about 60 miles west of the Scilly Isles in position 50º37'N, 08º44'W.

21 Jun, 1940
The British tanker San Fernando is torpedoed and damaged about 50 miles south-south-west of Cape Clear in position 50º20'N, 10º24'W by the German submarine U-47. The tanker was taken in tow by tugs but sank the next day. HMS Fowey (Cdr. H.B. Ellison, RN) and HMS Sandwich (Cdr. M.J. Yeatman, RN) together pick up 49 survivors.

19 Oct, 1940
HMS Fowey (Lt. C.G. de L. Bush) picks up 35 survivors from the British merchant Empire Brigade that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-99 about 100 miles east-southeast of Rockall in position 57º12'N, 10º43'W.

Fowey also picks up 36 survivors from the British merchant Shekatika that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-123 about 90 miles east-southeast of Rockall in position 57º12'N, 11º08'W.

20 Nov, 1942
HMS Fowey (Cdr. L.B.A. Majendie) picks up 67 survivors from the British merchant Grangepark that was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-263 west of Gibraltar in position 35º55'N, 10º14'W.
