USS S-37 (Lt. J.R. Reynolds) torpedoes and sinks the Japanese transport Tenzan Maru(2775 GRT) about 30 nautical miles west-north-west of Rabaul in position 04º00'S, 151º50'E. S-37 is depth charged by the Japanese submarine chaser Ch 30 but she is able to escape undamaged. (see map)

USS S-37 (Lt. J.R. Reynolds) ends her 5th war patrol at Brisbane.

17 Aug 1942
USS S-37 (Lt. T.S. Baskett) departs Brisbane for her 6th war patrol. She is ordered to patrol off Guadalcanal.

19 Oct 1942
