Returned to the USN on 29 August 1941 and Converted to a Rescue and Salvage Ship
Recommissioned USS Redwing (ARS-4) on 28 October 1941

USS Redwing (Lt. M.C. Sibitzky) is sunk on 29 June 1943 by an underwater exposion (most likely a mine) north-east of Bizerte, Tunisia in position 37º19'N, 09º56'E
