9 Feb 1945. On 9 Feb, 1945 the British submarine HMS Venturer, commanded by Lt. James S. Launders, torpedoed and sank this boat. This is the only known incident in naval history in which one submarine sank another while both were submerged. Lt. Landers sank U-771 on the surface the year before.
