Death in the Irish Sea

The Sinking of the RMS Leinster

By Stokes, Roy
1998, Collins Press, Cork
ISBN 1898256527
153 pages

Descripton: From the Publisher: Just one month before the end of the First World War, the mail boat RMS Leinster was sunk by three torpedoes fired by the German submarine UB-123 on 10 October 1918. Death in the Irish Sea reveals for the first time the full circumstances of Ireland's greatest maritime disaster. The sinking occurred in sight of Dublin and claimed the lives of 500 of the 771 occupants. The issues of Home Rule and Conscription were extremely sensitive and demands for a public enquiry into the sinking of the RMS Leinster were refused. Very limited investigation followed and the findings were censored.
