Have you ever wonder that the piping looks like in the engine room on a Type VIIC/41, here your chance. These drawings are base on the Design and Specification Books, Volume M that was found aboard U-570, shipyard drawings and U-995. During the research we found evidence of three reviews of the engine room. The first was around mid 1941, the second is around mid 1943 and the last sometime late 1944. My drawings are base on the late 1944 version.

Hello,

I'm currently working on the AFV Club Type VIIB, pretty good kit but even better with some PE.

From what I have read in reviews I understand the decal are lacking in quality, so I am wondering if there is anyone who make decals for this kit?
I have seen some for the 1/350th scale VIIC but still nothing for the VIIB.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

I'm looking for any information on conning towers for IX type uboats. I've gone through many documents/books, but unable to find the same detailed description as for type VIIs. The only mention on the subject I've been able to locate mentions that the look of type VII and type IX became "more similar when both uboats received a Turm 4 type upgrade".

I'm working on some models (or starting to) for SH5 and really would appreciate any information that I can get my hands on in this regard.
I've build her with the IV conningtower and Askania compass housing, i know the harbour connections where normally inside the dolphin like compass housing.
They replaced these connections to the lower side of the conningtower, what i'm curious about is, how do they look like?, by that i mean the connections itself?.
The kit has a semblence of a deck mounted stern tube and the dual rudders. I want to try to get it looking correct. Boat will be U-35 off Spain in 36. Photos show "neutrality" strips on front and both sides of the conn and across the deck , forward of the 88mm mount. Would it have been aft of the conn too? Other boat is U-47. Any clues on her color during the Scapa Flow op? Photos appear dark so I'm thinking Dunklegrau 51 or Schlickgrau 58. Thanks in advance for any pointers. TJK

Hi folks,

I bought the Revell 1/144 Type VIIC/41 a while back and now I'm almost done painting it. The included paint scheme alternatives caught my interest since it featured a U 212 (if I recall correctly) scheme where the superstructure and tower were supposed to be painted white (the deck being grey though). I assume this was intended to be a winter camouflage pattern since the U 212 spent several patrols far north in what I assume were quite snowy and icy conditions.

Does anyone know if there's any historical record of any u-boats ever having been painted white? I've tried to find pictures but so far failed.

FYI, I decided to paint it white in either case since it made for an unusual and quite stunning look that goes well with heavy weathering. If that makes it historically inaccurate I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Hi

When I paint my model VII U-Baot, I want it to look as authentic as possible. I want to show weathering, repairs and so on. Can someone advise me on the sequence of paint used for U-boats? What colour coating was used on the base layer, was it red that would show through if the submarine was damaged? or were only shades of grey used from the first coat onward?

I'd really appreciate a reply from someone who knwos.

Greeting everyone,

I am currently looking for reference pictures of top view of the 88 mm deck gun specially the top view where the clinometer is attach and the connexion setup behind it.

I have already a lot of picture from it but none is clear enough to help me out, i also have some blueprint and shematic that are worth almost nothing because of high level of innacuracy.

The Jersey maritime museum have an original 88 mm completely restore so if anyone is going to go there soon it would be nice to get some detail picture from it.

Hi gentlemen's,

I was amaze that most of my plans for type VIIC show the conning tower at different positions and also differ in height.

The plan i was using are the Rossler plan, Revell, and another one i don't know the origin.

I am refering here to turm type 1.

So my question is : Does someone know the exact distance from the front of the conning tower to the bow in meter and also the correct height?

Hi everybody,

First i like to introduce my self my name is Hans Witteman and i am the lead designer for a new u-boat simulation, i start that project as a Silent Hunter 3 modification but along the way programmers join our group to make a new simulation.

Every u-boat is meticulously model to the finest detail with accuracy in mind you can have a look at our website : [www.u-boot-hahd.com]

Our current problem is finding layout information for typIID,B,C command room layout the only plan we have show only the radio room location on starboard but the rest is difficult to identify so any help would be more then welcome.

And if possible we would greatly appreciated to have contact with former veterans that have seen or serve on board any typIID,C,B,A.

Our goal is to preserve history since a lot of information related to typII have vanish.

Best regards Hans

Hello to everyone

on the net I found a very interesting kit by Griffon Model. It contains some accurate details to improve the quality of a Type VIID 1/144 model, here's the link: [www.freetimehobbies.com].

I really wish to know what is the big semi-circular plate between the 88mm gun and the forward battery hatch. I have sometimes seen this plate in original pictures but I can't imagine its function: many boats (especially late in the war) don't have it at all.

Thanks

The Drawing
The drawing is base on U-1308 a Type VIIC/41. U-1308 was the last Type VII to be build, consequently the Kriegsmarine fitted her out to be the most advanced Type VII’s of her type. U-1308 was one of nine Type VIIs that the Kriegsmarine fitted with an experimental synthetic rubber skin of anechoic tiles known as Alberich. U-1308 was also one of two Type VIIC/41s that was equipped with a new design of passive sonar hydrophones.

How to view the U-boat drawing
To view the drawing you will need to have a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader. The PDF document contains different layers to make viewing easier. These layers can be view all together or separately by selecting or deselecting layers within Adobe Reader. To best view the drawing, select only the layers that you want to see otherwise the drawing can become very hard to view.

Drawing Layers
* Hatches - This layer display the deck hatch layout.
* Legend Deck - This is the legend for the deck layout. The guidelines are display in blue for this layer.
* Deck - This layer display the deck layout.
* Conning Tower Casting - This layer display the Conning Tower casting.
* Legend Under-decking - This is the legend for the under-decking layer. The guidelines are display in red for this layer.
* Under-decking - This layer display all the equipment, piping etc... which is found under the main decking
* U-Boat - This layer display the pressure hull, saddle tanks and the bow and stern casting.
