Dear Kosta,
Prince Eugenio di Savoia Carignano was such a real character that at least THREE capital ships were named after him, and two of them in different Navies that theoretically should had to fight each other.
Beside Kriegsmarine "Prinz Eugen", the other two were:
"KuK Prinz Eugen" of WW1, referenced at [www.geocities.com]
"RN Eugenio di Savoia" of WW2, referenced at
[www.modellismo-navale.it]
[www.regiamarina.net]. Eugenio Di Savoia.
I also strongly suspect that more Navy hardware had been named after that famous leader in the sail era.
