But the ink in the cartridges is not the right chemical used for etching.
The etching process that I am familar with first coats/paints the brass (or other material) with a photo-sensitive film, called a photo-resist. This is then exposed to light. The brass sheet would have a negative laid up against it...think "contact print."
The film on the brass is then developed much like a photograph. This causes the exposed portions of the photo-resist to be washed away, leaving behind the photo-resist in all the places where you do not want any etching to occur.
Finally, the brass is placed in a chemical bath to actually do the etching. The bath eats the surface of the brass where the photo-resist has been removed.....and you have your part(s).
