Well, I would not go that far. The resin hull is smooth, but the kit does come with some very nice photo etched parts to form the hull sides above the water line with nice flooding holes in them. The etched decks are a work of art.

The model airplane guys on hyperscale.com can probably tell you how to simulate raised weld lines and other surface details. But I would go easy on the surface detail, as its easy to get carried away and spoil the model.

I haven't started this kit, but so far I have only two complaints (OK, three if you include the price). First, its a type B. I'd much rather have a type C. Second, the small slots below the torpedo tubes are not molded onto the kit's hull, and do not come as etched overlays. This is going to be a problem.

Murphy's law: after I spend weeks converting the Amati model to a C, some Chinese company will release a 1/72 injection molded type C for $25. Maybe I ought to start the kit so you wont have to wait so long for the $25 kit!
