Hi Chris
I am very aware that Type IX-B German U-boat has two screws (props).
However, I did not know that this U-boat kit from Academy has a single prop to be motorized..? It seems to me that it is a bit of a "toy" rather that a true model of the craft in question...?
Now to your question about buying the Revell U-99..?
I can only say ..Try buying it and have fun? But make sure you get the correct colours scheme for this kit.? Many paint this model incorrect. eg Red hull.
I've built this kit a long time ago. It is not a bad U-boat kit, but it has some faults from Revell. The model is a 1/125th scale and it does look very good, if you add more work and details yourself. One tip is to drill out all the sea vents on both sides of the hull. Revell has failed to do this, as it is too expensive.
However, with some time and patience you can build a very U-boat on a budget or so?
My suggestion is buy the U-47 Type VIIB U-boat from "AMATI" Kit No. AB 1602. This is a 1/72 scale U-boat. Although much bigger than the Revell U-99, but also more expensive to buy and more modelling skills is required to build this kit.
Cheers, Joe Brannan
Btw..."Please", just make it Joe..not Mr Brennan.! Thanks
