I have both the brass deck and the wood deck. I have not used either at this time. I have sealed the wood deck with future floor wax in thin coats. It did warp the deck right after coating, but returned to a nice flat state when dry. I was concerned with the wood soaking up paint and not being able to get the grain back to something closer to scale.
I have since thinned the kit deck, so it is now see-thru. I feel that in the end, this will look much closer to scale. In close pictures of the deck, you can not really see any wood grain so to speak. As for showing ware, that would be dry brush work to bring in the wood deck coloring. Just one note, thinning the kit deck was not as hard as I first thought, but is time consumming, in the end, i think it will be well worth my time.
