Hi guys. I am doing a little research in the Type VII, based mostly in the documentation found on www.uboatarchive.net.
I am curious about this:
R1 – Compensating Fuel Bunker #1 [Regelbunker] - This tank is located external to the pressure hull and in the center section of the saddle tanks, and its construction is very unique. .....This tank increased the U-boats’ fuel capacity by approximately 20 cubic meters on each side. Therefore, the total capacity of R1 is 40 cubic meters, or approximately 43.2 tons of fuel which extends the U-boats range about 2000 nautical miles. This modification started with the Type VIIB.
Acording to the site above, this tank has a capacity of 4.7 m3 each, or 9.4 m3 both. Where does the 43.2 t number come from?
Regards
