Correct me if I am wrong but the U-1006 was sunk in the English Channel on October 17, 1944 by a British Destroyer assisted by a Canadian Corvett, the HMCS Outremont. Some of the survivors were picked up by the British and others were picked up by the Canadians. My father was a young Officer and Navigator of the Canadian ship and he told me that many of the German survivors were revealed to be picked up by the Canadians where they were generally treated better.
My father gave me the gas ration card of a German submarine Officer off the U-1006 which I have to this day. Dad also made a sketch of the decal that was painted on the German U boat: a pig's behind with a curly tail.
I suspect that the prisoners were taken to England, but I do know that the German Officer did contact my father after the war and thanked him.
