My father Adalbet Walczak was a crew memeber of the U 1006 which was depth charged off the Shetland Islands. He was picked up by a Canadian ship and became a POW in England, where he met and married my mother. He was responsible for designing the emblem of the U1006 - "the pigs behind with the curly tail". He attended the funeral of Admiral Karl Donitz. My father and mother attended many reunions with his Uboot colleagues and he kept in touch with some of them until his death on 12th March 2009.
