On Jan.30,43 U-175 plunged to a depth of 310m after DC attack by a Catalina before surfacing without control at 12/08N
20/30W. After returning to Lorient (despite extreme damage), the "Druckmesser" (pressure gauge) checked out correctly since the "Tiefenmesser" (depth gauge) was off the scale.
Incredibly abt 3 1/2 months later on Apr.17 it reached a depth of 320m during a DC pursuit by USCC Spencer before surfacing and its subsequent destruction by gunfire. Two surviving Zentralmaate verified the pressure on the "Druckmesser". The Cdr. and 12 others were killed in this action, 41 survived.
That puts both dives slightly in excess of 1000'. RB
