Hi Don,
What a ride! Please express all our admiration to the Adm. the next time you see him.
Having been a rag sailor now for abt. 50 years, I know better than to insist on my right of way when the big boys are playing on my playground. Also rules are that the smaller more maneuverable vessel has to give way to the less maneuverable (i.e. draft restricted) in restricted waters. The Channel to Hamilton certainly qualifies. Bloody fool, the sailboat skipper.
A number of years ago I sailed northbound in the Stream east of Georgia right into a carrier group on nighttime flight ops. The Group crossed my course from Northwest to Southeast. I was finally challenged by the FFG sweeper astern of that huge CVN,
telling me on guard channel that there are carrier ops underway.
I replied: "So noted since the last 40 minutes. Will try to stay clear at 8kn, just don't change course and run me down at 30+."
Obviously they were burdened, but I was not about to test them.
Regards, RB
