Hi SuperKraut,
the problem was that the scientists knew that the radiation of the METOX was to low but the Dönitz´ advisors (and Dönitz self) didn´t know why the aircrafts could attack a U-Boat at bad weather conditions without an alarm of the METOX. The german scientists never believed that it is possible to equippe an aircraft with an cm-radar. So the allies must have found another way to detect the U-Boats (they thought). And the radiation of the french broadcast-receiver SADIR was high enough to detect. So why can´t the METOX be detected too?
That is one of the reasons why Germany first lost the war of technology and then the WW2. The believe in their own technology (like the Schlüssel"M" decoded by ULTRA and the torpedocrisis) and the incapacity of connecting the experiences of the officers with their equippment to the science to solve the problems.
