Most would sink or expload at the end of their run as a floating torpedo would pose a danger to all ships, friend or foe. Ships sunk after WWII like the "Snoopy " dragged up one of these tin fish from the bottom in it's nets. The captain of the "Snoopy " found a German torpedo in his net and tried to disarm it himself causing it to expload, but in most cases the unsuspecting boat hit the torpedo when bringing in the nets.
