Hi John,
The tank in the Diesel Engine Room was originall located overhead on the C/L between the 2 engines directly aft of the E/R escape hatch. It\'s dimensions are about L2.0mxW1.25mxH0.8m or about 2cbm volume (~70cft). It was the \"Treiboel-
verbrauchstank\" = Fuel Oil Day Tank. FO was pumped from FO tanks outside the pressure hull into this tank. From here the fuel line went to the injector pumps on both engines, and the fuel return lines lead back to this tank.
The explosion tore the tank of it\'s welds and it apparently wedged itself between the Diesels. If full contents without tank weghed abt 1.4metric tons.
